Priya Okonkwo runs a small bakery in Melbourne. After noticing her Google Business profile photos looked flat compared to competitors, she decided to try shooting her own shopfront at night, when the warm interior lighting spills onto the footpath.

The setup she used

Priya used a second-hand mirrorless camera and a cheap tripod from a local camera shop. She shot at around 8:30 pm on a weekday, after foot traffic had thinned but before the street lights created too much colour cast.

What actually worked

She set a low ISO of 400, aperture at f/5.6, and let the shutter stay open for 4 seconds. The result was a clean, warm image that showed the bakery sign, window display, and street pavement without blur.

One decision that changed the outcome

Priya turned off the fluorescent ceiling light inside and left only the display case lights on. That single change made the interior glow look inviting rather than harsh. She arrived at this after two failed attempts where the interior looked overexposed.

The final image is now her primary profile photo. She did not need editing software beyond basic brightness adjustment in her phone.
